NZ dairy finds growing demand in Bahrain
Fonterra Co-operative Group has signed a three-year supply agreement with a major Bahraini food distributor, significantly expanding the range of New Zealand dairy products available across Bahrain and the wider GCC market.
The agreement covers whole milk powder, butter, cheese, and cream products, with an estimated annual value of NZ$45 million.
Bahrain as a GCC gateway
Bahrain's strategic position makes it an effective distribution hub for the wider Gulf market:
- Free trade agreements with the US and strong GCC integration
- Modern port infrastructure at Khalifa Bin Salman Port
- The King Fahd Causeway connects directly to Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province (population 5+ million)
NZ dairy credentials
New Zealand's grass-fed dairy systems are increasingly valued by Gulf consumers who seek:
- Clean and green production systems
- Hormone-free and antibiotic-free products
- Halal certification embedded in production processes
- Traceability from farm to consumer
Chamber facilitation
